Research
My research focuses on understanding the properties of black holes and testing the theory of general relativity across many astrophysical and cosmological scales. To achieve this, my group has pioneered the use of hybrid computer architectures to perform the most extensive computer simulations of magnetohydrodynamical turbulence and plasma-photon interactions in the warped spacetimes of black holes. I am also a founding member of the Event Horizon Telescope, the international mm-VLBI experiment that has taken the first picture of a black hole with the horizon-scale resolution, and served for three years (2016-2019) as the initial Project Scientist of the collaboration
