The current ongoing projects include: (1) thermal transport and thermal management in graphene devices, and (2) infrared spectroscopic measurement of graphene.

Area 1:

Thermal transport and thermal management in graphene devices

Heat dissipation is a key challenge in modern IC and SOC. Finding emerging materials, that augment other methods in thermal management solutions and mobility enhancement solutions, remains critically important to the future of the silicon industry. Graphene appears to be a promising candidate of such emerging materials, owing to its high mobility and superior thermal conductivity. The goal of this project is to design, fabricate and test graphene-based nanostructures that can control the heat flow and use heat as a new computation variable.

Area 2:

Infrared spectroscopic measurement of graphene

Infrared spectroscopy is a very powerful technique that can yield important information that is complementary and/or supportive to the information obtained from other experimental methods. It covers a range of techniques dealing with the infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum. This technique recently has been employed to study the infrared optical properties of graphene, extending our knowledge of this novel material and demonstrating the potentials of graphene-based optoelectronics devices. My current focus is to investigate the effects of electron-electron interactions on the infrared optical properties of graphene.
