Welcome, Prospective Students!

MRSEC Fellowships are available to new PhD students from groups traditionally under-represented in Physics. MRSEC Fellows commit themselves to pursue a PhD in Physics (experiment or theory) with a professor affiliated with Georgia Tech’s newly awarded NSF Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (MRSEC). The general theme of the MRSEC is graphene as a future replacement for silicon. Professor Walter de Heer talks about graphene research at Georgia Tech at

A MRSEC Fellowship *supplements *our usual offer of a Graduate Teaching Assistantship (which already waives tuition and provides a $22,000 per year stipend) with an award of *$7500 per year for four years*. Fellowships are available to incoming graduate students who are US citizens or permanent residents. Although not a rigid criterion, the best candidates will have at least a 3.5 GPA in math and physics courses, a GRE Physics Subject test score of 700 or above, and a strong interest in condensed matter physics.

Interested students should apply to the PhD program and send an e-mail to andrew.zangwill@physics.gatech.edu indicating their undergraduate institution and their interest in being considered for a MRSEC Fellowship.
