6H30.40 Karo Syrup

PURPOSE: To demonstrate circular polarization

DESCRIPTION: A bottle of corn syrup (with the label taken off, of course) is used to show the effects of circular polarization. This is a very colorful and interesting demonstration!

SETUP TIME: Surprisingly, medium

COMPONENT LIST:

  1. Bottle of corn syrup Bring your own or ask Sarah Paukstis
  2. Light source of choice
  3. Polarizing Film Located on "Wave" shelf

SUGGESTIONS: Practice with a variety of light sources ahead of time to see which will give the best effect. (Ideally, the syrup would be back-lit and the polarizer would be rotated in front of it.)
