6D10.10 Laser Interference Patterns (Double Slit)

PURPOSE: To demonstrate light interference from two sources

DESCRIPTION: A double slit is held before a laser and the diffraction pattern is displayed on the wall.

SETUP TIME: Minimal

COMPONENT LIST:

  1. Double slit, laser, stands

SUGGESTIONS: We have many double slits available for this demonstration (with varied individual slit width and varied separation). Take a look through the "slits" box!

OTHER NOTES: Please practice laser safety and make sure the backscatter from the slit (not to mention the primary beam) is directed at the floor and not up or out at students.
