5N10.10 High-Voltage Transmission Line Model

PURPOSE: To Demonstrate transmission lines.

DESCRIPTION: A model high-voltage transmission line is available. 120-V AC is transmitted through wires that have been gimmicked with built-in resistors. By the time the current reaches a light bulb "300 miles away," the bulb burns very dimly. But throw switches to cut in step-up and step-down transformers (800 V), and the bulb burns brightly.
