5J20.10 Time Constant for Inductors (L/R)

PURPOSE: To demonstrate the time constant for inductors.

DESCRIPTION: A large inductor with low resistance is carefully matched to a special dedicated meter. The build-up and decay of current in the inductor are slow enough to be seen with the yee (you could measure L/R with a stopwatch). For comparison, a non-inductive resistor whose R is equal to the DC resistance of the inducotr can be switched into the circuit; the behavior is then of course very fast.
