5H30.15 Geissler tube Q v X B demo

PURPOSE: To demonstrate force on a moving charge.

DESCRIPTION: The effect of a magnetic field on charged particles. A small Geissler-type tube produces a glowing purple plasma thread when energized with high voltage (take appropriate precautions). A built-in field coil produces a magnetic field which causes the purple thread to rotate continuously, almost like a motor without solid parts. A magnetron magnet can be brought up to the glass for further illustration of Q v X B.
