5H15.40 Field Around Current-Carrying Solenoids

PURPOSE: To show the magnetic fields around a solenoid shaped, current-carrying wire.

DESCRIPTION: Several wire configurations on transparent frames are available for the overhead projects. The can be powered with DC, sprinkled with iron filings, and will display the corresponding fields.

SETUP TIME: Minimal.

SUGGESTIONS: Smaller iron filings seem to work better. Putting too many filings on the frame will obfuscate the field pattern.
