1F20.34 Coke Bottles/$: Inertia

PURPOSE: To demonstrate principles of the inertia of rest.

DESCRIPTION: Carefully balance 2 (6 or 8 oz.) coke bottles atop one another with a dollar bill inbetween the lips. Snap dollar bill out of the configuration without making the upper bottle fall.

SETUP TIME: less than 5 minutes

SUGGESTIONS: Practice this! A fun (?) variation is to fill the top bottle with liquid so that, when the dollar bill is taken out, the liquid pours down into the lower bottle.

OTHER NOTES: It is almost impossible to pull the dollar bill straight out. Instead, drape the dollar and slash down rapidly with finger or pencil.
