Textbook: An Introduction to Mechanics, by Kleppner and Kolenkow (McGraw-Hill 1973)

Course pre/co-requisite:  Math 1502 or 1512 is a prerequisite for this course.

Grades:

Determination of final grades will be based on weekly homework (25%), four in-class exams (40%), and the final exam (35%). In addition, you must pass the laboratory portion of the course in order to pass Phys 2231.

Quizzes:

The quizzes will be "open book", meaning you will be allowed to consult your textbook during the exam. Also, each student will be supplied with a calculator to use. Near the end of the semester, we will have "substitute quiz day": each student will have an opportunity to retake whichever one of the quizzes they choose and substitute the new score for the original one.

Labs begin the week of January 14th. All students must attend laboratory. Please go to the webpage, http://www.physlab.gatech.edu to read about policies and administrative arrangements before the first lab meeting.

Homework:

Weekly assignments will be posted on this page. Typically these will be due at the start of class on Tuesdays, and solutions will be posted immediately after class. No late homework will be accepted. Since homework will be hand-graded, please make sure to write complete solutions (not just answers) so that the grader can follow your reasoning.

Academic Honesty:

The policy on academic honesty as stated in the GIT Honor Code will be fully enforced during this course.
