Course Objectives: This course aims to provide you with broad exposure to current research in physics. Each weekly seminar in this course will typically feature a GT faculty member, who will describe cutting edge research in a particular subfield of physics. In addition, a seminar on graduate school application procedures will be provided, seniors completing their PHYS 4602 requirement will present their research presesntations, and we will take some time to discuss what you should be doing to prepare for your 4602 presentation next Spring.

Grading: Grades in this course will be based upon class participation. At the conclusion of each seminar, be prepared to ask the speaker at least one question regarding the seminar topic. For the seminars listed below in bold font, you will be expected to take some brief notes and prepare a short one-paragraph report summarizing the major points of the the lecture. This report will be due at the beginning of the next class period.

Attendance: Attendance in the course is mandatory. The final course grade will be reduced by one letter grade for each unexcused absence from a seminar. Excused absences will be allowed only for situations approved by the Dean of Students or for participation in activities officially sanctioned by the Institute. If you anticipate missing a class for a justifiable reason (e.g. job interview), please see my in advance to request a "special dispensation".
