- Course Grades
Course Grades have been posted to Course Standing. If you think your grade is erroneous, please contact Dr. Murray. On the other hand, if you just wish your grade were different, please do not contact Dr. Murray. All possible consideration has already been given. - You may be interested in the distribution of course grades by class attendance in section E, the section for which I (Dr. Murray) have the most complete data. It shows, for example, that 43% of the students who attended regularly (more than 90% of the time, as determined by the sign-in sheets) earned a course grade of "B". Particularly interesting, I think, is that no student who attended more than 90% of the time earned a grade of "F" in section E, while no student with poor attendance (less than 60% of the time) in that section earned a grade of "A".

- I'd like to thank those students who made the effort to attend class and participate.

- Final Exam Grades
Unadjusted scores for the two parts of the Final Exam have been posted to Course Standing. Because there was a substantial disparity between the scores on the two parts, 15 percentage points will be added to each student's score on part two. To calculate your overall Final Exam grade, add 15 percentage points to the posted score of part two, and average the result with the posted score for part 1. (Alternatively, you could average the two posted scores, and add 7.5 percentage points.) - May 03
- Participation Grades
Participation Grades have been posted to Course Standing. Because this was the one aspect of the course that was handled differently in different sections, we have made an effort to insure that students in no section were placed at an advantage or disadvantage. The result is an average participation grade of 100%, with some grades exceeding 100%. Questions about your individual participation grade should be directed to your own lecture instructor. - May 01
- Homework (MasteringPhysics) Grades
Homework (MasteringPhysics) Grades have been posted to Course Standing. It is an assignment average, unlike the problem average that MasteringPhysics displays. Each student's poorest four grades, out of the 42 regular assignments, have been dropped. One-tenth total number of questions answered correctly on the two administrations of the Qualitative Assessment have been added to the homework average as extra credit. For example, if a student with a homework average of 90.0% answered a total of 45 questions correctly on the Qualitative Assessments, their homework grade would be posted as 94.5%. It is possible to have a homework grade greater than 100%. The overall class average on the homework is 94.9%. - Apr 26
- Recitation Attendance
From the number of students stopping by who have suddenly discovered that attendance at recitation is required, it is apparent that the policy was not publicized clearly enough. We apologize for that, and have decided that it would not be right to enforce the policy at this point. We hope that those of you who did attend recitation regularly found it a valuable learning experience. - View Old Announcements
