If your computer is maintained by the School of Physics IT Support Team, then please e-mail support@physics.gatech.edu indicating your computer name (PHYS#####), and that you'd like access to the copier in S103 - we will be happy to install the requisite software for you. The information below applies to users who maintain/administer their own GT computers.

Due to our department's use of accounting codes, you will need to install the full Xerox driver on both Windows and Mac operating systems; Linux users should download the ppd file from our website, below. Windows and Mac users can locate an appropriate driver here: http://www.support.xerox.com/support/workcentre-7755-7765-7775/downloads...

You can retrieve your accounting code from Nicole Thompson, the administrative manager for the School of Physics. The printer hostname address is hpb-s103-copier.physics.gatech.edu

Windows Setup

For Windows users, once your printer is installed, please right click on the printer icon inside of 'Devices and Printers', and select 'Printer properties', then select the 'Configuration' tab at the top, and then the 'Accounting' button in the middle lower section of the dialogue box. Choose 'Xerox Standard Accounting or Auditron' as the Accounting System. If you have multiple people using your PC, then choosing 'Always Prompt' as the accounting prompt choice and leaving all other options as default is a sane choice: each time a user prints, they will be able to enter their partciular accounting code. If you will be the sole user of the machine, it is appropriate to enter that information now under 'Default User ID'. Default Group Account is appropriate as the Account Type.

Mac Setup

For Mac users, once your printer is installed, please open a document to print, select the print dialogue, and choose the Xerox copier as your destination. You should see some options, including a drop-down bar; in the first image to the right, this drop-down bar currently says Layout. Select this drop-down bar, and choose the Xerox Features option. In the drop-down bar just below the one you've selected Xerox in, choose Advanced, and then below it, select the 'Accounting' button. In order for this information to be persistent, you'll need to select 'Save Current Settings as Preset" in the Presets drop-down box.

Linux Setup

For Linux users, please download the Xerox WC 7775 PPD file from here ; the file is named WorkCentre7755.ppd but is compatible with the 7775. It can be downloaded by right-clicking the link above, and choosing 'Save Link As' in the context menu. Once you have this file, please edit it with your favorite text editor, and search for 'REPLACEME'; you should find it on a line that looks like:

  *JCLAccounting XSAUser/XSA User Based Accounting: "@PJL COMMENT OID_ATT_ACCOUNTING_INFORMATION_AVP <22>XRX_USERID,REPLACEME<22>;<0A>"

If your account code is 301825, you would modify the line so that it looks like:

  *JCLAccounting XSAUser/XSA User Based Accounting: "@PJL COMMENT OID_ATT_ACCOUNTING_INFORMATION_AVP <22>XRX_USERID,301825<22>;<0A>"

Save the file in /usr/share/ppd/custom/Xerox/

Then add the printer using whatever tools you prefer (we traditionally use CUPS, which is enabled by default on most distributions - open a web browser to http://localhost:631 in order to configure your CUPS printers), ensuring that you specify the custom PPD file as the driver to use. Unfortunately, this method sets the machine to use one accounting code for all users. If you have users that need to use separate accounting codes, then please create one PPD file for each user (with their accounting code reflected in the line mentioned above), and add the printer multiple times, using each of the PPD files that you created for each of your users and providing a unique name. When adding the printer, please specify Tray 3 or 4 for your default, as these each contain 8.5"x11" standard-sized paper.
